Ballet Classes

The different ballet classes that Mo Holland Dance Studio offers

Preschool Ballet

Ages 3-5 (Preschool) is a beginning ballet and tap introductory class for children ages 3 to 5 years old. Students in this class will learn basic steps in ballet and tap along with rhythm exercises and basic tumbling skills. Simple steps and basic rhythms are used to help develop fine motor skills and muscle strength start building a foundation for classic technique. In the fall semester, students will be focusing on learning the basic steps. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn a choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester. 

 

Ballet (Ages 5 to 8)

Ages 5-8 (Ballet & Tap) is a beginning ballet and tap class for children ages 5 to 8 years old. Students in this class will learn ballet positions and steps (i.e. first through fifth position), work at the ballet barre, basic tap techniques (i.e. shuffling, ball changes, etc.) and basic tumbling techniques (i.e. forward rolls). Students will have the opportunity to work and solidify the basics of their foundations in this class, further honing fine motor skills and muscle strength. Rhythm exercises will also be done to help students further develop their musicality. In the fall semester, students will be focusing on learning basic technique. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn a choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester. 

 

Ballet (Ages 9 to 12)

Ages 9 & Up (Ballet) is a beginning ballet class for children ages 9 to 12. Students in this class will continue to practice basic ballet step and positions, learning to combine steps together to create a sequence. Work at the ballet barre will continue to help students solidify their technique. Students may have the opportunity to continue their basic tumbling skills and incorporate them with the class. In the fall semester, students will participate in across-the-floor exercises to teach them how to execute the steps and technique they are building. Steps and positions will be put to music with basic choreography to further hone musicality and rhythm skills. In the fall semester, students will focus on executing sets of steps in succession to music, while continuing to work on their foundation. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn a choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester.

 

Teen & Adult Ballet

Teen & Adult (Ballet) is an intermediate ballet class for students ages 13 and up. Students in this class will continue to practice ballet steps in succession, practicing ballet barre exercises, learn to put their own series of steps together, and choreography. There is still focus given to technique, however, the majority of focus is given to teaching students how put series of steps together in rapid succession to a choreographed number. In the fall semester, students will learn choreography and do across-the-floor exercises to strengthen their technique. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester.

 

Adult Ballet

Adult (Ballet) classes are intermediate and advanced ballet classes for adults. Students in this class will strengthen their technique and practice complex choreography to strengthen their choreography. There is still focus given to technique, however, the majority of focus is practicing a choreographed number using strong technique. In the fall semester, students will learn choreography and do across-the-floor exercises to strengthen their technique. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn choreographies for the recital presented at the end of the semester.
